My B-day was on Tuesday.
What did I get?
My dad gave me $100... which I used to pay bills.
My mom and step-father told me I no longer owed them anything.
(this was my x-mas present too)
The dumpster god gave me an old beat up guitar. :D
(probably because of all the neat stuff I gave it)
And many friends on IJ and LJ wished me a happy b-day... :D
(such as my girlfriend, voodoochild9 on LJ, Carrie, Laura, Pen,
etc etc etc...)
Also, google has been bringing me lots of hits to this website
lately... IJ and LJ has too. Oh yeah... some flash
cartoons I made also brought me hits. :)
Even my old COTW website, which I thought my old ISP
removed when I cancelled is still giving me hits.
I will probably be putting ALL my old flash cartoons
back up, including all the unfinished ones,
and a new one that hardly anyone
ever saw... the working title is "CAFE". I need to
make a preloader for it first, and see if there is
anything else I can do for it... right now, it CAN BE
considered finished, as it does have a decent ending
but I want to add a few things first.
I also have a weird video clip that I might put up
soon... but I'm going to tweak it first, and make
sure that the people who appear in it are ok with
the clip being put online. (basically, anyone who
I took a picture of with my camera is in it)
As for this year? My girlfriend and I have an
idea for a flash cartoon we want to do together.
I'm also going to do something to where I can put
a bunch of my old drawings online in flash form,
where there's buttons to click through the drawings.
...but with me taking 15 units again, and working
24 hours over the weekend, finding spare time will be hard.
...but I am going to school for a graphic art type degree.
At some point, I will even be taking classes in Flash.
Right now, I'm taking an Illustrator class, and a web design
class... also drawing, fiction, and "History of Rock Music".

Things you can do with an eight year old PDA...
So anyways, that eight year old
B/W 8mb Palm Pilot (Palm IIIxe) I got for
free from my old job is my new toy! :D
(they were going to toss it, but I rescued it)
Like I already mentioned, I have pictures on it.
Since they are 160x160 with 4 bit grayscale,
they hardly use up the 8mb of available space.
(and I can compress them if I want, but I don't)
But, they aren't too bad. About as good as b/w
picture in my wallet. (and I have a few of those)
So, how good is the quality of 160x160x4bit grayscale?
Well, I'll demonstrate... with a animated gif running
at exactly that quality...

(I don't have all the pictures I want on it, but it's a start!
I just have mostly random images, for fun.)
But storing pictures isn't the only thing
I can do with an eight year old PDA.
For $10 (on ebay), it's a lot cheaper than
a Gameboy DS! ...and the batteries last long enough.
Supposedly, the device is supposed to
last a whole month on two AAA batteries.
(although I think a two weeks is more like it)
I have Tetris, Yahtzee, Solitaire, and
lots of other games on it... all of them
freeware. I can also mess around with a gameboy
emulator... if I want. (but I don't need to)
I can also use it as an ebook reader if I want,
although the ebook would have to be in some sort
of text format. But I have lots of other things
in text format... Hmmm... I do have a copy of "Steal This
Book" as a text file somewhere... :) (and "Possum Living")
OK... so it isn't as good as a NEW PDA, or a Gameboy DS
or even most new cell phones. BUT IT'S CHEAP.
REALLY CHEAP. Cheap enough to where I'm happy.
I didn't pay anything for mine, but I can get
one for $10. ...and for $10 more, I can get the
Palm Pix add-on, and make it into a crappy digital camera
as well. The Palm Pix is about as good as a $20 digital
camera... but at least I have a view finder now.
(and the pictures are in color, even on a b/w Palm Pilot)
Eh... what can I say? I love old technology.
If you ever see me with an IPOD, it's because
someone gave it to me.
Oh yeah... music. It's possible to put music
on it, and I tried it, but the quality reminds
me of that old Windows 3.1 sound driver for
computers WITHOUT sound cards... where 8-bit
mono sound was channeled out the pc speaker.
...except on my Palm, it sounds a lot worse!
I can also use it as a universal TV remote,
if I download that particular app.
...oh yeah. It does all the things an 8-year-old
PDA is supposed to do too... like store addresses
and have a calender function on it.
...I will have to say though, the device only
came with a standard serial (com) port connector.
SO... if I decide to get rid of my old Pentium
3 computer with my that interface, I'll either
have to get the USB dock, or buy a serial to USB
connector of some type. OH WELL.

I now have a Palm Pilot...
Yep... the Palm IIIxe. Why?
It didn't cost me a dime. :P
Something new to play with.
EDIT: I eventually figured out
how to view pictures on it...
160x160 with 16 shades of gray...
NOT BAD. Good enough for photos
that don't look TOO BAD... :)

I just saw DIRTY DUCK, a short
animated movie (1:10) made by
Flo and Eddie. (the two guys who
were originally famous for being
the lead members of The Turtles,
and were also in Zappa's band in
the early '70s and featured in 200 Motels)
Wow... what a weird movie.
Not weird in the same way as 200 Motels
But WEIRD.
It's basically a one hour long x-rated cartoon.
Produced by the same studio that made 200 Motels
and The Point.
It was so bizarre... I laughed hard many times.
Although it hardly has much in common with Fritz
the Kat or Heavy Traffic (or Coonskin) it is
still something I'd definately watch again.

DERAILROADED
OK... so I just saw DERAILROADED.
It's a documentary about Larry "Wild Man" Fischer.
Wow... it's actually a decent movie.
Besides Larry being in it, Barnes and Barnes
appear, Mark Mothersbaugh, Weird Al, Dr. Demento,
and some old clips of Frank Zappa talking about him.
It has lots of old footage, including his appearance
on Laugh-In. Captain Beefheart and Wesley Willis
are also mentioned in the movie. Some interesting
people show up in the credits too.

OOOH!
Ooooh! I still have my copy of the
2003 Loompanics Book catalog...
...I thought I threw it out!
Good thing I didn't... I was planning on
throwing it out, as it was badly water
damaged, and I thought I could easily
replace it...
...until I discovered that they went
out of business, and the old catalogs
were selling for quite a bit of money!
Why do I care? Because to me, the book
catalog is a list of books that I might read...
(and I should be able to find some of these
books on amazon.com) There's lots of weird
books in it... very subversive stuff. OK,
now I am not the type who'd actually make
crystal meth... but there's books in this
catalog that explain it. Freedom of speech right?
If anything, just the part about living a life
where I spend very little money is ideal to me.

Peekyou? More like f...
Once in a while, I google my own name, just
to see what pops up. Usually I get links
to my own website, myspace, livejournal, etc etc
and that Fingertips project I had some involvement with.
But today... I found something new...
http://www.peekyou.com/USA/Nevada/Reno/Eric_Fleck/644298#
What is this crap???
Apparently, this website, "peekyou.com", goes around gathering
all the info you may have at one point put up on the internet,
and some other random info as well... the logic makes no sense.
Um... there is a lot of incorrect info here.
*Life
computers, laura, people, antiques, photography, music, drawing, biking, art,
rain, sleeping, school, arguing, pirates, books, honesty, peace, open-mindedness,
animation, cartoons, cheese, sarcasm, satire, procrastination, livejournal,
stuff, volkswagens, People-watching, thinking, Altruism, Wikipedia, truth,
videos, taoism, funk, chicken, liberalism, libertarianism, electronics, geeks,
hope, intuition, surviving, MST3K, Tiger, cat, beatles, mp3s, tolerance, anti-bush,
class of 1998,
* Work
Water Sculptures, Orange County, Washoe County School District,
* School
Los Amigos High,
First off, they take the most unique data, and strip it out.
Then they put in stuff that makes no sense. Like "Laura".
By putting that in, they suggest that I'm interested in
someone named Laura... who is just a friend of mine.
Tiger? Where did that come from? I don't really have much interest
in tigers... if anything, I like lions better, because I sometimes
look like one... :P
All the rest of the data suggests someone who isn't exactly me.
As for work, it lists a bunch of jobs I haven't had in years,
(one I QUIT on bad terms, and don't want to be associated with anymore)
and then lists the high school I went to.
OK... that's it. I'm deleting my myspace profile RIGHT NOW.
And maybe facebook too. I DON'T NEED THEM. I CAN PUBLISH MY
OWN PROFILE, ON MY OWN WEBSITE!!!
...ok, maybe not delete, but I'm definately removing a lot
of data, and just putting up a link to the real data, that *I*
can control!
I tried to register with peekyou, so that I could change the data, or remove
my profile altogether, but they haven't sent a confirmation e-mail yet.
I also sent an e-mail to remove@peekyou.com... lets see where that goes.
As for the rest of you... take a look, and see what they have on you!
EDIT: OK, they finally sent me the confirmation e-mail, so I was able
to edit the profile to show EXACTLY what I wanted it to.
If anyone else wants me to change something on their behalf, let me know.

Hey...
Oh yeah... I have a blogger account. I better update it.
So anyways, I left for a trip to Virginia
on January 8th, and came back on the 15th.
The trip went well. I went all the way to
the east coast just to meet some girl I've
been talking to for at least a year. I never
met her before this trip, but I'm pretty sure
I'll be meeting her again sometime in the
not-too-distant-future... :)
School starts up again on January 28th.
Spring semester, I'll be taking 15 units
AGAIN, although I will be taking easier classes.
Last semester, I barely got a 3.0 GPA. :P
I really should post some photos soon.

FINALLY!
I FINALLY found a video transcoder (converter) that will handle just about
ANY FILE I throw into it...
"SUPER"
http://www.erightsoft.com/Superdc.html (website link)
or...
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER_1 (easier link)
It converted Quicktime MOV files, Real Media RM files,
Flash Video (like stuff from Youtube) FLV files...
All the normal formats, and even the stupid formats
that annoy the hell out of me (like MOV, RM and FLV)
because they aren't easy to transcode. (and I know
many of you were annoyed when I made my old COTW
files in RM format... which is why I switched
to DIVX later on)
OKOKOK... it wouldn't convert Flash Animation... (SWF)
But that's ok. :P
It would also make DVD compliant VOB files, IPOD video,
PSP video, ZUNE video... lots of formats. And VCD compliant
MPG 1 video, which is my favorite because... ANY COMPUTER
CAN PLAY IT. Even a Pentium 1... and my DVD player.
(but only if I store it on a CDR)
It also looks like it does BATCH encoding... if I don't
mind using the same settings for all files... :P
And it will also tell me everything I need to know
about the input video. (like resolution, frame rate, etc)
Anyways... I'm SUPER excited. Why? I've been waiting
YEARS for something like this. I'm tired of having
lots of video in formats I can't use. It would be
NICE to be able to convert EVERYTHING to MPG or AVI.
(or even put it on a DVD for someone)
OH... audio transcoding? My favorite for that one is dBpowerAMP.
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm
(however, I use version 10.1... MP3 encoding is not cripped with it)

Chapi Chapo...?
Whoa... I was looking at old stuff on youtube,
when I came across this weird thing... Chapi Chapo
The music is weird, and has some very electronic music
during the second half of the theme. It's catchy though.
But what is this?
I even uploaded the theme song for those who really like it... :P
http://www.fifthandraitt.com/users/ericfleck/livejournal/chapichapo.mp3
Apparently, it's some French animation for young children
from the 1970s...
